Pink Lemonade Sugar Scrub

As promised, although VERY late - I am sharing the craft I made for Jessie's Valentine Craft Party. She has pictures up of the party on her blog here so I won't be redundant and post mine, which are virtually the same. But I will post pictures of my craft:

Pink Lemonade Sugar Scrub

I basically followed this recipe by Christy at From Glitter to Gumdrops, however I made a few alterations/additions.

Here are the ingredients I used, basically the same measurements as Christy's but I made a LOT of this scrub (I needed to make enough for 15 people).

As you can see, I swapped Mineral Oil for the Olive Oil in Christy's recipe. I did this because Mineral Oil is odorless and colorless, and I wanted to be sure to have pure colors/scents. I did try a batch with Olive Oil but I didn't like the way it tinted the color, and the smell over-powered the lemon scent. I also added lemon extract in place of lemon juice, and the zest of 2 lemons to my entire batch (would work out to just a scant amount per recipe using her measurements).

All you do is mix the ingredients together until combined. I used my stand mixer for this because a) I had to mix a LOT of sugar scrub and it made it much easier and b) all of the ingredients are food safe (mineral oil is used as a laxative, so although that's not appealing, it *is* technically food safe right?? LOL) so there was no worry of tainting my mixer.

And then scoop it into a pretty jar...

Add some ribbon, a label and gift tag, and Voila! Pink Lemonade Sugar Scrub, ready to gift! Couldn't be easier, but will definitely make your friend or loved one feel so special!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Valentines Day with the ones they love!

Until next time - Love,
Mariah

  1. Love the substitutions you made to this recipe!
I would like to make enough for 24 people, for a pink baby shower I'm hosting. How long will these stay good? I need to do it in advance, and am hoping I can make them a week or more before my event?

  2. Hi there - thanks for the comment :-) Mine in a small jar usually lasts for over a month and it works and smells fine the entire time. I tried to find an answer on the internet for you...but there really is a lot of varying information. Some say as long as it doesn't have any dairy or items that require refrigeration it can keep for months. Some say once sugar scrubs are exposed to water (ie. in the shower or from wet hands) it's best to use them within a few weeks - however that is all once the jar is opened so I think making them ahead before they will be used will be fine. I also read a tip about adding sea salt if you are worried about preservation as sea salt is a natural preservative. That would work well with the sugar scrub and wouldn't change the smell at all, so you might want to try just adding a little sea salt in with your mix :-) Hope that helps! Have fun at your baby shower, I just love those!

  4. Mindy - it should be in the pharmacy or Health/Beauty area. If you can't find it you can use baby oil but it does affect the scent unless you can find it unscented - but essentially baby oil is mineral oil. I found it at Wal-Mart but you should be able to find it at any CVS/Walgreens type place as well.
